When an adoptee or an adoptive family begins the process to find answers it can bring about a broad array of emotions as well as expose the complex layers that are often associated within the intercountry adoption system. In order to maintain a healthy process we recommend adoptive parents provide opportunities for their adopted child to speak with a trauma informed and adoption competent therapist as well as opportunities to connect with other adopted people.

Reconnecting with one’s home country and biological family is an important aspect of an adoptee’s well-being as is ensuring they have a professional to help them process the the information the are learning and the relationship they are reestablishing.
